These biscuits or cookies are called jumbles and are made from a store cupboard ingredients which you will have to hand. I think they are called jumbles as they can be flavoured with whatever jumble of things you have to hand. The recipe I based my biscuits on was from The Great Book of British Baking.

Pitta Bread
I have a day off work today so decided to make some pitta bread for our lunches for the rest of the week. They are really easy to make and require minimal effort. I used a recipe from Paul Hollywood’s How to Bake.
Crumpets
Crumpets are something we eat often – my children love having them for tea on a Sunday evening whilst watching TV. I decided this week to make my own for the first time. The recipe I followed was one by Paul Hollywood from his book How to Bake but he has a similar recipe in the Good Food Channel website. Continue reading
Bagels
I’ve never made bagels before but we eat lots of them so I decided that today was a day to try something new. I used a recipe by Dan Lepard from his Short and Sweet recipe book. He has a similar recipe which can be found on the Guardian website.
Banana and Chocolate Loaf
I’ve discovered two things whilst writing this blog;
- It is much harder than I thought to take good photos of food – especially with a ‘point and click camera’ and on dark evenings when the kitchen is poorly lit
- Most cake/biscuit/bread recipes are very similar – does that make the blog boring?
Any variety of cake made with banana and chocolate is a favourite of one of my boys which is a good things as we often have overripe bananas in the fruit bowl that no one will eat!
Lemon Muffins
Muffins are my favourite thing to bake when I have little time and few ingredients. These lemon ones just use a few basic products that I usually have to had without having to make a trip to the shops.
Chocolate Fudge Tray Bake
This cake was made to share at work and help celebrate a colleagues 21st birthday. I found the recipe on the BBC Good Food website.
Raisin Oatmeal Cookies
These cookies are another lunch box treat and are another recipe that can be made with things that I normally have in the cupboard without making a special trip to the shops.
Tapenade Dinner Rolls
I made these rolls to have with soup for a family gathering. I was in a rush and forgot to take photographs as I went along. The recipe was a Dan Lepard one which can be found here. I have to say that mine weren’t nearly as neat as his!
Red Pesto and Parmesan Pinwheels
Tomorrow we are having a family gathering at lunch time and decided that we would all bring some food to share – we are going to have homemade soup, bread and puddings. My contribution is to be the bread. As I am busy already in the morning tomorrow (I have taken up Dragon Boating!) I decided to make one of the breads this evening to save time.
